CWE Travel recently conducted an on-site inspection of the Angkor Wildlife & Aquarium in Siem Reap. Discover what’s in store for our travelers this upcoming high season!
With Cambodia’s high season just around the corner, our team at CWE Travel has been busy behind the scenes doing what we do best: testing, inspecting, and refining experiences to ensure our guests get the absolute best out of their time in Siem Reap.
Recently, the CWE Travel team headed out to Angkor Wildlife & Aquarium—one of the region’s newest family-friendly and conservation-focused attractions. Located about 30 minutes east of Siem Reap city center along National Road 6, this site combines freshwater and marine exhibits with outdoor wildlife sanctuaries.
Here is a look at our team’s experience and why we’re adding this stop to our upcoming high-season tour offerings!
Why Quality & Safety Inspections Matter to Us
At CWE Travel, we don’t just book tours off a brochure. Before recommending any destination, our team conducts hands-on inspections to review:
-
Guest Comfort & Accessibility: Walking pathways, shade, and facilities for families, solo travelers, and multi-generational groups.
-
Safety & Standards: Maintenance of exhibits, crowd flow, and overall visitor safety.
-
Ethical & Educational Value: Ensuring the park aligns with our commitment to responsible tourism, education, and wildlife protection.
Highlights from Our Site Visit
The team spent the morning exploring both the indoor aquatic zones and the outdoor wildlife trails. A few standouts from our walkthrough:
1. The Freshwater & Marine Aquariums
The main indoor exhibit features impressive glass tunnels and massive tanks showcasing native species from the Mekong River ecosystem—including the rare Mekong Giant Catfish—alongside vibrant saltwater marine life. It offers an educational window into Cambodia’s rich aquatic biodiversity.
2. Outdoor Wildlife Sanctuaries
Spanning 10 hectares of greenery, the outdoor section is home to rescued and protected species, including smooth-coated otters, Indochinese tigers, sun bears, and crocodiles. Watching the otters during feeding time was an absolute highlight for our team!
3. The New Reptile House
We also checked out the newly added Reptile House, featuring species like the King Cobra, Siamese Crocodile, and colourful Asian Water Dragon, complete with informative background detail on local conservation efforts.
What This Means for Our High-Season Travelers
As we gear up for peak travel season, Angkor Wildlife & Aquarium provides an ideal addition to Siem Reap itineraries:
-
Perfect for Families: A great half-day excursion for parents traveling with children who want a mix of education and outdoor fun.
-
Great Rainy Day or Midday Escape: The air-conditioned aquarium buildings offer a cool break from the afternoon sun.
-
Beyond the Temples: A refreshing change of pace after a day exploring the ancient ruins of Angkor Wat.
